Meet Our Staff

  • Ms. Brittany DelSignore serves as Director of Bands at Berkeley High School in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, where she has led the program since 2017. Under her direction, the Berkeley Band has earned multiple recognitions through the South Carolina Band Directors Association and Carolina Winter Ensemble Association. They have also performed on National platforms through Bands of America and Winter Guard International. 

    EDUCATION:

    • Ms. DelSignore grew up in Naperville, Illinois.

    • She holds a Bachelor's in both Music Education and Performance from Illinois State University

    • Master of Music in Performance from Miami University

    • She has completed over 30 hours of advanced coursework in music and special education and earned an AP Music Theory Endorsement through Miami University, Claflin University, and Vandercook College of Music. 

    TEACHING:

    • Ms. DelSignore began her teaching career in Cincinnati, Ohio, at Summit Academy Community School, a charter school serving students with learning challenges related to Autism and ADHD. There, she taught K–8 General Music and Middle School Band, building a strong foundation in differentiated instruction and student-centered learning practices that continue to inform her work today.

    • From 2014 to 2017, she served as Director of Bands at North Charleston High School in Charleston, South Carolina. During her tenure, she was named the 2016–2017 North Charleston High School Teacher of the Year and contributed to the school earning the GRAMMY Foundation’s Community School Award. 

    BEYOND THE CLASSROOM: Ms. DelSignore is deeply invested in professional leadership and advocacy for music education. She served on the Charleston County School District Fine Arts Curriculum Team (2015-2017), Carolina Winter Ensemble Association Advisory Committee (2018–2020), and currently serves as Berkeley County School District’s Lead Teacher for High School Band. She is a Certified South Carolina ADEPT Evaluator and a BCSD GUIDE Teacher Mentor, working alongside educators entering the profession to foster instructional excellence and professional growth.

    An active performer, Ms. DelSignore performs regularly with the Charleston Wind Symphony and has previously performed with the Charleston Concert Band, the College of Charleston Wind Ensemble, and as a substitute musician with the Summerville and South Coast Orchestras.

    Ms. DelSignore’s craft and passion for music have been profoundly shaped by the unwavering support of her grandfather, Frank Marsala, and by influential teacher mentors including Mrs. Claire Fenton, Mrs. Emily Binder, Mr. Jonathan Lauff, Mr. Charles “Chip” Staley, Dr. Stephen K. Steele, Mr. Gary Speck, Dr. David Gresham, Ms. Michele Gingras, and Dr. David Maslanka. Their mentorship instilled in her a deep respect for artistry, discipline, and the transformative power of music education.

    Ms. DelSignore believes wholeheartedly in a deep commitment to musical excellence and student growth in leadership and life skills that prepare them for college and career readiness beyond high school. Additionally, she believes in supporting the “whole-student,” by supporting and mentoring young educators in all content areas to elevate public education as a core foundation of society. 

    She resides in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, with her trumpet-playing architect husband, Zach, their son, Jacob, and a menagerie of spoiled fur-kids.

    Jonathan Amado is a music educator from Summerville, South Carolina, originally from Gastonia, and is currently one of the two band directors at Berkeley Middle School. He is also a first-generation American, with the rest of his family coming from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He received his high school diploma from Cane Bay High School and his Bachelor of Arts from Charleston Southern University. Amado started in music at a young age, playing the piano at age 7 and then picking up the trumpet at age 12 before switching to tuba one year later.  Outside of many leadership roles he has been in over the years, he has helped out with many schools in the tri-county area (Charleston, Berkeley, and DD2), including Stratford High, Westview Middle, Berkeley High, Thomas C. Cario Middle, and full time at Eagle Nest Elementary School. He also currently works at the Charleston Jazz Academy and is active in playing music on the side.

    Amado is an enthusiastic musician with 13+ years of experience playing in multiple ensembles, including wind ensembles, marching bands, chamber groups, jazz bands, and full orchestras. Accomplished tuba/sousaphone player, proficient at both BBb and CC tubas, and able to play in both formal and informal settings. Experienced in trombone, trumpet, and piano/keys, each in a jazz setting and otherwise, plus has sung for the 2022 jazz band in Brazilian Portuguese at CSU.

    In his undergrad, Mr. Amado was part of the CSU Marching Bucs, the Pride of the Lowcountry Marching Band, as the drum major. He was also part of the Charleston Southern University Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Symphonic Band, Low Brass Quartet, Brass Quintet, and the PLC Pep Band on a variety of instruments. Amado was also involved in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) as secretary in his chapter at CSU in 2023, as well as the president of the Tubacracy, a student-led group of Charleston Southern University.

    In addition to playing and teaching, Amado also has experience in composition and arranging music, as well as instrument repair. Outside of music, he has experience with Graphic Design and 3D animation.
