Who we are
The Blue Brigade was founded in 1943, making it one of the oldest and longest-running high school band programs in South Carolina. The current Director of Bands, Mrs. DelSignore has led the program since 2017 and is the longest-tenured band director in the ensemble’s history. Under her consistent leadership and vision, the band has experienced significant growth over the past decade, with enrollment increasing from 71 students in 2017 to 116 students today.
Since 2017, Berkeley Bands have consistently earned Superior and Excellent ratings at all SCBDA and BCSD events, including Marching Band, Solo and Ensemble, Concert Performance Assessment, and Jazz Performance Assessment. The program has also received numerous state recognitions, including CWEA Color Guard Class Champion Titles in 2018 and 2019, a Top 8 placement in the SCBDA Marching Band Lower State Competition (State Qualifier) in 2021, and State Qualification and participation in the State Concert Performance Assessment in 2022. Individual Musicians from the program have been selected for the All-State Band from 2023 through 2026 and the All-State Orchestra in 2026.
In addition to its State achievements, Berkeley Bands have performed on National stages, appearing at the Bands of America East Tennessee Regional Championships in Johnson City, Tennessee in 2022 and the WGI Winter Guard Regional in Rock Hill, South Carolina in 2024.
